Featured In: The Bureau of Queer Art: Volume 2

I’m deeply honored to have my work featured in The Bureau of Queer Art: Volume 2, presented by Art Gallery Studios. This showcase serves as a beacon of celebration for global queer and allied artistry.

My journey with this publication began with a moment of hesitation. With the publication initially interested in my Grasp series, I found myself uncertain about whether my work fully encapsulated the essence of the theme. However, after a dialogue about these hesitations, we found that my fantasy landscapes resonated with the overarching message, and was asked to swap the showcase for that series.

Inspired by Bell Hooks, she aptly expresses, “‘Queer’ not as being about who you’re having sex with (that can be a dimension of it); but ‘queer’ as being about the self that is at odds with everything around it and that has to invent and create and find a place to speak and to thrive and to live.” This sentiment beautifully encapsulates the exploration within The Bureau of Queer Art and the fantasy series.

“Nerio’s work is also deeply philosophical, exploring themes of duality—such as the interplay between levity and gravity, the traditional and the contemporary, or the simple and the intricate. These thematic underpinnings offer her audience an enriched viewing experience, challenging them to reconsider their own viewpoints and cultural assumptions. The open-ended narratives she constructs act as a stage where viewers can actively engage and interpret her work, further enhancing its resonance and impact.”
